Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has offered an update on the fitness of Emile Smith Rowe and it’s a positive update overall from the Gunners boss.

The in-form England midfielder limped off at Manchester United in midweek. It came after Smith Rowe had opened the scoring in the game, as David De Gea stayed down following a knock from Fred.

But instead of finishing the game and trying to help Arsenal nab an equaliser, Smith Rowe was taken off instead, with the midfielder showing some signs of injury. And speaking ahead of Monday’s clash with Everton, Mikel Arteta admitted he is still unsure if Smith Rowe will play.

“He was uncomfortable in the game and had some discomfort, so we had to take him off,” Arteta told Sky.

“But let’s see how he is tomorrow. He recovered well and was much better yesterday. So we will have to assess tomorrow and hopefully he will be ok.”

Smith Rowe has been in fine form for Arsenal this season. As one of the attacking midfield players, the England man has been exceptional and has five goals to his name already this term.

TBR’s View: Arsenal need Smith Rowe for every game

Everton is a game Arsenal should be winning. But they have a much better chance of winning if they can include Emile Smith Rowe in the first XI.

The youngster has been one of the star performers for the Gunners this term. When he’s not playing, they miss his energy and spark at the top of the pitch. There is no doubt about it.

But this sounded promising from Arteta. The fact Smith Rowe is recovering and feeling better already suggests another few days will see him fine. Gunners fans, then, will be delighted with the comments from the boss.
