Mikel Arteta has showered praise on the club’s latest signing Thomas Partey, after the Gunners beat the deadline to land the Atletico Madrid midfield.
It was a dramatic day on Monday for the north London outfit, with news of a breakthrough in the Partey pursuit first breaking at around midday.
The Gunners eventually stumped up the £45 million to La Liga to pay the player’s release clause, with the official announcement actually arriving just a short time after the 11pm deadline.
It is a major coup for Arsenal, who will be hoping Partey can make a big difference to the team.
Speaking for the first time about the player, Arteta said (official website): “We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad.
“He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.
“We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”
