Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has shared that he’s been impressed with how Calum Chambers has looked in training.
Despite making just two senior appearances this campaign, the Spanish boss has spoken highly of the 26-year-old.
Chambers, who has been at the Emirates Stadium since 2014, missed the opening months of the season through injury.
The centre-back has hadn’t much of a look-in since returning to fitness in the past couple of months and has had some minutes in the Under-23s team as a result.
Arteta has stated though that he won’t be exiting this month on a temporary basis and he’s been very upbeat about him.
“I don’t think that is going to happen. I am really happy with Calum,” Arteta said when asked if Chambers could leave on loan.
“He has gone through a really difficult period. He has worked so hard. He has looked really good in the last few weeks in training.”
Arsenal have a number of centre-backs at their disposal, which is why Chambers has been right on the fringes lately.
They have used the likes of David Luiz, Pablo Mari, Gabriel, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding already this term.
Arteta’s side have started to move up the table with positive results and have four consecutive clean sheets, as well as picking up 13 points out of their last five league matches.
It seems unlikely that Chambers will come into contention soon for the league XI, but the manager clearly wants to keep him around.
