Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, refused to guarantee that Reiss Nelson will be staying put this month, amid claims the youngster could be sent on loan.

The Gunners boss was speaking in his press conference today on a number of issues. Among them, the futures of a few of his Arsenal squad who aren’t getting many minutes.

Nelson, along with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, is in that group of players. And when pressed on the matter today, Arteta said a decision needs to be reached on the likes of Nelson in the coming days.

“That’s a conversation that we are having with the players that are not having a lot of time,” Arteta said. (Arsenal Official)

“Obviously we want to keep their development going and we will make decision in the next three days with some of them on what the best thing is to do. We try to be clear and transparent with what the plans are and their roles in the team. And after that, we decide on the best thing for the players and the club.”

Nelson has failed to even make the squad in the last two games. However, he is highly-rated by Arteta and the club. Indeed, the Gunners boss previously labelled the youngster as a ‘special talent’.

TBR View: Arteta should be trusted, a move for Nelson might do him good

It seems very much like Arsenal are all in with Mikel Arteta and they should trust his judgement here. He wants his young players to develop and learn so he’s always open to what is best for them it seems.

Nelson might well benefit from a move away. And there’ll be no shortage of takers either. He’s got all the attributes to be a top player and he’s also versatile, which is another string to his bow.

Don’t be surprised to see Nelson with a Premier League loan come the end of the window.
