Mike Grella has issued an exciting update on Leeds United’s reported pursuit of Jesse Marsch, insisting on Twitter that the Whites would be getting a top manager if he was appointed at Elland Road.

It would appear that Marsch is closing in on becoming Marcelo Bielsa’s successor. Bielsa’s departure was announced on Sunday after an amazing spell.

Reports claimed that talks with Marsch had reached an advanced stage. And it was reported later in the day that the American was all set to be confirmed as Leeds’ next manager on Monday.

Marsch is an intriguing name for the Whites. He is not the most experienced in Europe’s top leagues, having been dismissed by RB Leipzig earlier this season.

But he performed a superb job with Red Bull Salzburg before that, silencing many of his doubters during his time in Austria. And there are some similarities between his style and the style Bielsa instilled in his side.

Clearly however, Leeds need Bielsa’s replacement to hit the ground running. They remain in big trouble in the Premier League table. And they are surely destined for the Championship if their form does not turn around.

But Leeds fans will take some confidence from Grella’s view of the 48-year-old. The former Whites striker worked under Marsch with New York Red Bulls. And he insisted that he would be a great choice for Leeds…

Marsch deserves big respect for wanting Leeds job after Bielsa

The idea of who may replace Bielsa is one Leeds fans have started to debate at this time of year several times now. The hope has often been that Bielsa would carry on into the following season. But there has also been an awareness that he was not going to be at the club forever.

The debate has certainly split opinion. But one thing that all fans could agree on was that whoever succeeded Bielsa was set to face a huge task.

Marsch has a massive point to prove. He is taking over from one of the most popular figures in the club’s history.

Leeds will likely make this appointment with one eye on the future. But Marsch needs his impact to be somewhat immediate.
