Newcastle United are reportedly closing in on a deal for Miguel Almiron from MLS club Atlanta United.

According to BBC Sport, the 24-year-old is travelling to the Magpies to have a medical and agree personal terms with the club.

It is understood that the Paraguay internatonal is set to cost a club-record £20million to bring to St James’ Park.

Almiron is certainly set to be become a mainstay in the Newcastle team if he joins and will hope to repeat his success from the MLS in the Premier League.

The attacking midfielder has made 70 appearances for Atlanta, scoring 22 goals and supplying 21 assists in return.

He is a left-footed dazzler with an eye for goal and could be the hero that Newcastle fans desperately crave.

But Almiron’s potential spot in the team will come at the expensive of someone and Ayoze Perez looks the most likely candidate.

Perez is a regular in the Newcastle XI and is favoured by Benitez due to his immense work-rate.

He usually plays in an advanced midfield role or on the wing, but his return of just four goals in 27 games this season is fairly week.

Almiron will certainly beef up competition in the final third and it could well be Perez that pays the price by dropping down to the bench.
