Miguel Almidón has named Newcastle United teammate Federico Fernandez as the best trainer at the club.
Magpies attacker Almiron picked out the defender when asked the best trainer at St James’ Park.
“Federico Fernandez works really hard, and always gets in early,” Almiron told the club’s official website.
Fernandez has been a key player at the back this campaign for Steve Bruce’s side and has played 25 senior games across all competitions.
The 31-year-old is a physical centre-back that is great in the air and a real leader at the back with his wealth of experience.
He was signed from Swansea City for £6million (BBC) back in the 2018 summer transfer window and slotted in well to a reliable defence.
The Argentine enforcer was out of contract with Newcastle ahead of this summer, but the club acted earlier in March by extending his stay with them to 2021 by exercising a one-year option on his deal.
Fernandez is a streetwise defender that is a valuable player at the back for Newcastle and it’s no surprise to hear of his dedication behind closed doors too.
It was a no-brainer to extend his stay beyond the summer and a strong backline has been the key to the club’s success in recent seasons, so they could have a really exciting side if they can just sharpen up in attack.
Bruce didn’t appear to be the most popular appointment in the summer when he had the tough task of succeeding Rafael Benitez, but his team sit eight points clear of the relegation places in the Premier League and also reached the FA Cup quarter-finals before football was suspended due to the COVID-19 virus.
