Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron was left very impressed by his teammate Kieran Trippier at the World Cup yesterday.

Trippier was one of two Newcastle players to be called up to the England squad for the tournament in Qatar.

Callum Wilson earned himself a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad after an impressive start to the season at St James’ Park.

Southgate handed Trippier a start at right-back yesterday while Wilson replaced Harry Kane in the 76th minute to make his World Cup debut.

Trippier put in an impressive display from right-back and was providing a real threat with his set-piece deliveries. And Almiron has praised the £144,000-a-week man on Instagram after England’s 6-2 win over Iran yesterday.

Almiron very impressed by Trippier

Trippier posted on the social media platform after yesterday’s game and is already looking ahead to the clash with the USA this week.

He wrote: “Fantastic way to open our World Cup campaign with 3 points. Now we train hard and look forward to Friday nights game.”

And Miguel Almiron was clearly impressed by his teammate’s display as he left a fire emoji beneath the post.

Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters also commented and said: “Played bro!”

Trippier will be hoping to keep his place in the England side throughout the tournament, with Manchester City’s Kyle Walker set to return from injury.

The 32-year-old has been brilliant for Newcastle this season and has carried his form into the World Cup.

England posed a real threat from set-pieces yesterday and that was largely down to Trippier’s pinpoint crossing.

It will be interesting to see whether the Magpies full-back can indeed nail down his place in Southgate’s side after Walker returns.

Trippier offers qualities that the City full-back doesn’t, but England may need Walker’s pace in the backline against top-quality opposition.
