Newcastle United have confirmed the signing Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United today (official site), after weeks of speculation.
The Magpies had been linked with the Paraguay international in the run up to and throughout the January transfer window – and they have finally got their man.

Almiron joins the Toon Army for a club record fee of £21 million as reported by Sky News, which eclipses the £16.8 million paid for Michael Owen all the way back in August 2005.
Almiron could well make his debut against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Supporters have high hopes for the attacking midfielder, who had been billed as one of the MLS’ most exciting players.
In 37 appearances for Atlanta this term, he contributed 13 goals and 11 assists.
Almiron can restore the feel-good factor
The 24-year-old arrives at the club with a reputation as being a flair player and a dribbler.
He is someone who can get supporters out of their chairs and cheering on the team.
The mere fact that the club have finally broken their club transfer record to sign him will instantly get fans behind him.

His status as the new record signing could well see him ride the wave of support he’s bound to receive from the crowd, who have waited years for such an acquisition.
He is a marquee signing who can be the pick-me-up that most of the club’s supporters have needed this season and mostly during owner Mike Ashley’s reign.
