Newcastle United fans finally had something to cheer about when it came to the transfer market last week. The club broke their long-standing transfer record to bring in Atlanta United playmaker Miguel Almiron. As reported by the BBC, he cost around £20 million, beating the previous record of £16 million paid for Michael Owen in 2005.
It is an exciting addition for Newcastle fans and many hope the Paraguayan can help guide them clear of relegation strife in the second half of the season.

Speaking after joining the club, in quotes reported by the Premier League, the attacker highlighted the reasons why he decided to join up with the Magpies.
“I’m very happy and eager to start and to meet my new team-mates.
“The league is very competitive, this is a historic club, and Rafa Benitez himself were the main reasons why I am here now.”
One of the key reasons appears to be Rafa Benitez and the Spaniard is clearly an asset that Newcastle have not yet been using to lure players to St James’ Park.
The Spaniard has won the Champions League and managed massive clubs such as Liverpool, Real Madrid and Chelsea.
His appeal could easily bring top talent to Tyneside and the fans at Newcastle have known this for some time.
If he could get more financial clout then plenty of big players would be chomping at the bit to come and play for the club, with Benitez a huge reason for the appeal.
Hopefully, this is the start of renewed recruitment for the Magpies.
