Newcastle United’s torrid summer went from bad to worse on Thursday, as Ayoze Perez completed a £30million (BBC) move to Leicester City.
The 25-year-old attacker has departed for a Premier League rival and left a sizeable gap in the side at St James’ Park.
He was one of the standout performers during the last campaign, scoring 13 goals and supplying four assists in 43 games across all competitions.
Once the Magpies appoint a successor to Rafael Benitez as the next Newcastle manager, the team needs to find a solution to fill the Perez void.
The Spaniard provided skill and an immense work-rate in both wide or central attacking positions of the pitch.
Newcastle may though have a like-for-like replacement already in their ranks.
Miguel Almiron is someone that the North East club are going to need to rely on massively and he’s got the capability to help cover the loss of Perez.

Almiron dazzled in the second half of last season following his January move for £20million (BBC), but did fail to score or assists in his 10 appearances in English football.
The 25-year-old is a speed machine though that showed some promising glimpses and can be a real asset next season if he sharpens up in the final third.
Newcastle need to find goals from wide areas, something that Perez did extremely well in recent years.
Paraguay international Almiron proved in the MLS with Atlanta United he can be a goal threat and it’s vital he steps into Perez’s shoes.
The only issue for Newcastle is that they are going to need attacking signings on top of that if they are to kick on next season, as loanee Salomon Rondon has also exited.
