‘Might be our David Silva’: Some Arsenal fans hail 19-year-old who’s in Arteta’s squad for the first time

A number of Arsenal fans have celebrated Ben Cottrell’s first call-up to the Gunners senior squad as Mikel Arteta’s charges prepare for their upcoming Europa League game.

Arsenal have travelled to Norway to face Molde on Thursday night hoping to make it four wins out of four in Group B, while their opponents are currently second in the group.

Arteta has drafted in four academy gems for the trip, with Cottrell joined by Emile Smith Rowe, Folarin Balogun and Miguel Azeez alongside the established seniors.

While it’s great news for all the youngsters named in the squad, it’ll be particularly exciting for Cottrell, who is in the first-team squad for the first time.

The 19-year-old started out as a full-back in the Arsenal academy but was asked to move to midfield, where he continues to play for the U23s, specifically as an attacking midfielder.

That said, Cottrell’s versatility means he can still do a job in his original position, and in the August friendly win over MK Dons, he replaced Kieran Tierney at left wing-back.

The teenager is very highly rated at the club and amongst Arsenal fans, with some taking to social media to praise his call-up for the Molde game:
