Mido has urged his old side Tottenham Hotspur to bring back Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale this summer, and had some words of advice for the 29-year-old attacker.
Tottenham have been continuously linked with a move for the player they sold to Real for a world-record fee back in the summer of 2013. Since Zinedine Zidane returned, Bale’s game time has dramatically reduced.
Bale has only managed 14 goals in 42 league and cup appearances all season, as well as laying on six assists. Most would suggest that is a successful season, but by Bale’s standards he needs to do more.
It is well renowned that the French manager and Bale do not see eye to eye, and The Times even claimed this week that the former Southampton star could be allowed to leave Real for nothing – if someone can take on his salary.
Those wages are believed to be in the region of £650,000 a week – well out of Spurs’ price range. Tottenham will only sign Bale is he takes a pay cut, and Mido told TalkSPORT – as quoted by the Express – that he hopes Bale does return.

“Honestly, I would love to see him back at Tottenham. I remember his first day at Tottenham, I was there and I remember him being shown around the training ground with his mum and dad as a young boy,” Mido said.
“I think Gareth is one of those players who needs to feel loved to play well, and at Tottenham everyone loves him. I believe if he goes back to Tottenham he will get his desire back.”
TBR’s view
Real Madrid are not going to be able to sell Bale, even on a free, unless they help any interested parties such as Tottenham help to pay some of his wages.
There needs to be cooperation from all parties. Bale, first of all, needs to take an enormous pay cut. Then, Real need to pay a percentage of that figure until the end of his contract – which expires in the summer of 2022.
Lastly, Tottenham need to make Bale their highest-paid player and by some distance. Harry Kane is currently earning £200,000 a week at Spurs, and the north Londoners need to surpass that is they are to sign Bale.
If all three work in unison, there is a chance Bale could return to Spurs.
