Youri Tielemans has told Sky Sports that he is flattered to be linked with a move to both Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur, after an excellent six-month loan at Leicester City.
Sky Sports claimed last month that Tottenham and Manchester United are both interested in landing the 22-year-old from AS Monaco, where he remains contracted to until the summer of 2022.
The Telegraph claim Monaco want £40million for the Belgium international, who scored three goals and created five more in assists during his 13 Premier League appearances under Brendan Rodgers.
Asked about his future, playmaker Tielemans said that he is flattered to be linked with a move to both Manchester United and Tottenham but stated that “a lot of clubs” are keen to land his signature.
“We’ll see which club it will be,” Tielemans said. “Things are moving. A lot of clubs have shown interest. We shall see quotes in the next few weeks who it will be.
“Yes of course [it is flattering to be linked with Tottenham and Manchester United]. They are really big teams. It is flattering to hear those names. I just try to do my best on the pitch.
For Tottenham, signing Tielemans has become absolutely crucial in the last couple of days. That is because Christian Eriksen has told media that he is looking to leave the north London club.
Denmark skipper Eriksen has been one of Spurs’ most creative forces in recent seasons, laying on 17 assists during 2018-19. He will need replacing, and Tielemans fits the bill.
His short spell at Leicester proves he can hack it in the Premier League, and at £40million it would see Spurs bring in a player capable of matching Eriksen – and make a profit with Eriksen likely to leave for a fee double that.
