Lallana and Origi show their class
The influence of former Southampton man Adam Lallana at Anfield seems to be growing by the week. Tonight, the England international was at the heart of everything Liverpool did well. He tracked back to do his defensive duties, notably putting his body in the way of a fierce Adam Forshaw drive to prevent a Middlesbrough goal, and that came just moments after he showed his quality in attack, beating the same opponent in the air at the far post to nod Liverpool ahead after connecting with Nathaniel Clyne’s inviting cross.
Lallana would then assist the second goal, his teasing cross finished by Divock Origi, before the Belgian turned provider for the Englishman, Lallana producing a first-time side footed finish into the top corner following Origi’s lay-off to put the game beyond all doubt in the second-half. Two goals, an assist, and he ran the game in the middle of the park, with 85% of his passes reaching their intended target.
With his latest exploits on Teeside, Lallana has now been involved in 12 goals this season, scoring six and making six, already an improvement on the ten goals he helped to craft in his 30 appearances last season.
Not a bad night’s work at all for the midfielder.
As for Origi, his goal means he now has five goals in his last five appearances for the Reds, and with an assist to his name on the night as well, he appears to finally be beginning to flourish at Liverpool under Klopp.
