It’s rare to hear a Tottenham player praising Arsenal.

The two north London clubs are the most bitter of rivals, and both sets of players often avoid saying anything positive about the other team.

However, speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Micky Van de Ven has made a very honest admission about Arsenal.

Indeed, Van de Ven says that he thinks Arsenal are his toughest opponent in the Premier League so far since arriving in the summer, claiming that he found the game at the Emirates very difficult.

Arsenal difficult

The defender shared how he feels about Arsenal.

“Who has been your toughest opponent in the Premier League?

“I would say Arsenal at the Emirates. Yeah, that was a really difficult game. It was also a derby so you also feel like you are rivals. You don’t know what to expect because it’s your first game. You know when you’re younger it’s a big game, I don’t know what I expected but it’s rivals, Everyone around the world knows about the north London derby, so it’s incredible to say you’ve played one and hopefully there’s more coming,” Van de Ven said.

Tough

We can absolutely understand why Van de Ven is saying this.

Playing against this current Arsenal team is never easy, but the fact that Van de Ven has had to play against this Arsenal team in a derby game in that kind of atmosphere makes it that much harder.

Derbies come with an added pressure, and away from home, it’s even harder as the home team are given that extra push by the crowd.

Spurs managed to get a result at the Emirates – drawing 2-2 with the Gunners, but, as Van de Ven says, this was far from an easy game for Tottenham.
