Micky van de Ven suggested that one Tottenham Hotspur teammate has been ‘unbelievable’ this season, having worked so hard on the training ground since his arrival.
A number of Spurs players have been absolutely outstanding under Ange Postecoglou. There was real intrigue heading into this campaign given the problems the club had last year. And of course, some key men were moved out of the side.
One of those whose Tottenham career essentially came to an end was Hugo Lloris. And in his place, Spurs signed Guglielmo Vicario.
Micky van de Ven lauds Guglielmo Vicario
The 27-year-old was hardly a household name. James Maddison admitted that he knew nothing about Vicario before he signed. But the Italian has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best in the Premier League.

Vicario has been superb. And speaking to Optus Sport, Micky van de Ven suggested that his form is a reward for how hard he is working behind the scenes at Hotspur Way.
“Top-class keeper. I think what he showed to the world right now he’s a hardworking player. Everyday in the gym, after training, before training. He’s working hard to make the best out of his career,” he said.
“As a person, he’s also a top guy. You can speak to him about anything, on the pitch, off the pitch. What he’s showed on the pitch, unbelievable performances. It’s also really nice that sometimes when an attacker comes, we know Vic is in the goal. So it’s not easy for them to score a goal. He’s shown some unbelievable performances.”
An inspired signing from Tottenham
It seemed to be a big gamble to replace Lloris with Vicario. While Lloris’ form had been in decline for a couple of years before his departure, there was no question that he was a club hero.
So it was a major statement of how highly they rated Vicario. But he looks to be absolutely perfect for the way Tottenham want to play, with a high line.
Obviously, van de Ven has the pace to deal with anyone. But when he is out of the equation, Vicario is often ready to sweep up and deal with the danger.
And he is clearly determined to get even better.
