Micky Quinn and Steve Howey have reacted on Twitter after it was confirmed that the Saudi-backed bid looking to take over at Newcastle United had pulled the plug on their £300million offer.
Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners, combined with the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund and the Reuben Brothers had a £300million takeover bid accepted by Mike Ashley. But a deal has stalled.
Those of a Newcastle persuasion have been made to wait by the Premier League as they awaited approval – with piracy issues in Saudi Arabia and a damning report from the World Trade Organisation proving hefty obstacles.
Now, Sky Sports claimed in an exclusive that the bid had been withdrawn – which was later confirmed by a statement. Steve Howey and Micky Quinn both reacted in frustrated manner on Twitter.

It comes after Steve Bruce called repeatedly for the Premier League to make a decision on the supposed takeover – which at one point was deemed simply a matter of time. There remains interest in Newcastle.
American TV Mogul Henry Mauriss has been linked with an offer, but it remains to be seen whether a takeover will occur this summer. For now, it appears Ashley will remain in control during the summer window.
