Former Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado has expressed his admiration for Aston Villa winger Trezeguet, as per The National.
Salgado says he tried to get the wideman to sign for his former club Celta Vigo before Villa swooped for the 25-year-old this summer.
He said: “I was in there, and you can imagine Trezeguet, I tried to sign him for Celta Vigo. But finally Aston Villa put an offer and they got him. But I wanted Trezeguet in my country and playing for Celta Vigo.
“It’s not easy to succeed in the Premier League, it’s more difficult to play in it. You can see Trezeguet and Salah right now – of course Salah is on another level – but Trezeguet just arrived to the Premier League and, I can tell you, he’s going to be a really successful player in the Premier League. I don’t have any doubt about it.”
TBR’s View – Trezeguet needs to use semi-final winner to kickstart Villa career
Salgado’s words underline the talent Trezeguet has and serves as a reminder of the excitement which surrounded his arrival at Villa Park during the summer.
He has had a slow start but has already written himself into Villa folklore with his winning goal in stoppage time of the EFL Cup semi final against Leicester.
Now he needs to build on that and help Jack Grealish by providing the creativity Villa need to pull themselves away from relegation danger and make good on Salgado’s words.
