Jamie Carragher caused a bit of a stir recently when he stated that he doesn’t think Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is a world class player.
The pundit stated that Saka is on his way to being at that level, but he doesn’t think he is quite there yet.
As you can imagine, Arsenal fans were quick to disagree with Carragher, and speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has also stated that he believes Carragher is wrong.

Carragher is wrong about Saka
Antonio had a discussion about what ‘world class’ means and stated that he thinks Saka is in that bracket.
“My question, and I want to ask this because I can’t ask Jamie Carragher, what is world class?”
“My next question is what is the best league in the world? Everyone wants to play in the Premier League, the Premier League is the best league in the world. I’m saying overall, the Premier League is the best league, from the bottom to the top anyone can beat anyone. For me, world class is doing it at the best and doing it in the best situation, Saka is world-class, Jesus is world class, for me, Haaland is world class, Mo Salah is world class. Anyone fighting at the top of the Premier League are world-class players because they’re in the best league and doing the best.”
Difficult
It’s difficult to make this argument because everyone has a different definition as to what world class is.
For some, it’s a label that should be reserved for the very best players in the world such as Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, but, for others, it’s a more all-encompassing label that is for any top-level player.
Make no mistake, Saka is one of the best in the business these days, but he’s not quite at that level where he’s a genuine Ballon d’Or contender just yet.
Regardless, Saka is one of the most talented players in England, and Arsenal are lucky to have him.
