Michail Antonio has told The Footballer’s Football Podcast that he would not be interested in moving to Newcastle United when asked if the chance to join the Magpies would appeal to him.

The Magpies are continuing their push to sign a new striker in the final stages of the transfer window. Eddie Howe is yet to add an attacking player to his ranks this summer.

Reports have suggested that they are looking to sign Joao Pedro. But it is a current Premier League forward who has now been asked whether he would be open to moving to Tyneside.

It was put to Antonio that the chance to move to Newcastle may appeal to him. The club are certainly one side to watch out for in the coming years following their takeover.

However, the 32-year-old insisted that leaving West Ham for Newcastle is not something he would be tempted by.

“Not right now. I’m happy at West Ham, I’m enjoying my time here. I’m playing week-in, week-out, scoring goals, playing in Europe. New experiences for me, so I wouldn’t be up for it right now, no,” he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

Of course, Antonio is hardly likely to say that he would jump at the chance to move to St James’ Park. There have seemingly been no reports suggesting that Newcastle want him. So saying he would be keen would only cause trouble.

Having said that, he shuts down the suggestion quite emphatically.

He would arguably be a decent signing for Newcastle. Antonio has now 56 Premier League goals during his ‘brilliant‘ career. And he made 47 appearances in all competitions last season. So any concerns over his fitness may largely be behind him.

However, Newcastle are clearly going to look elsewhere for their new striker.
