Ex-England cricketer Michael Vaughan wants Danny Cowley at Sheffield Wednesday

The Lincoln City boss and a current Wednesday employee are top of Vaughan’s wishlist.

Sheffield Wednesday are on the search for a new manager after Steve Bruce’s decision to resign ahead of his move to Newcastle United.

The Owls finished 12th in the Championship during 2018/19 with things looking positive under Bruce.

It is now a case of back to the drawing board for the South Yorkshire-based outfit, who will hope to appoint a manager sharpish.

One of Wednesday’s famous supporters is ex-England cricket captain Michael Vaughan.

The former opening batsman famously led England to victory in the Ashes in 2005.

He is a close follower of Wednesday’s fortunes and he has taken to Twitter to have his say on who should replace Bruce.

Vaughan wants the club to go and raid Lincoln City for Danny Cowley.

The successful Imps manager works alongside his brother Nicky who is the assistant boss and Vaughan wants them both at Hillsborough:

The man who played cricket for England for nine years also has a contingency plan in mind.

It seems unlikely that Wednesday will attempt to pursue the Cowley brothers, so Vaughan would welcome an internal appointment:

It will be interesting to see who does take the job at Hillsborough.

The club has the infrastructure and fan base to be in the Premier League; but in recent years they have struggled.

A new manager will hope to hit the ground running.

With the season starting two weeks on Saturday, Wednesday can’t afford to mess around and a new manager needs appointing quickly.
