Newcastle United endured a really challenging season last term as they contend with an unprecedented injury crisis.

Despite that, Eddie Howe still managed to guide them to a seventh-placed finish, which is certainly a commendable achievement, context applied.

Now, the onus will be on Newcastle to return to some form of European football and to do that, Howe will need to be backed.

Star players Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes look set to remain and The Magpies are trying to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

With that said, former Newcastle forward Michael Owen has just shared where he thinks they’ll finish this season.

Michael Owen issues Newcastle prediction

Michael Owen, on the official Premier League website, predicted Newcastle United to just miss out on the top four and finish in one of the UEFA Competition spots along with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Shay Given, however, has tipped The Magpies to finish inside the top four, as did former Everton midfielder Leon Osman.

Given also made an interesting claim about Elliot Anderson, claiming he’s the most exciting signing of the summer so far.

Anderson left Newcastle for Nottingham Forest this summer due to PSR concerns.

Newcastle still need a winger

If Newcastle can get Guehi over the line, that’d be a marvellous signing and one that’d take them up a level.

But, they still need to sign a winger as Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy just aren’t top-four material on that right-hand side.

Baris Alper Yilmaz has been linked to Newcastle, so perhaps they’ll move for him once a defender is signed, which appears to be the priority at the moment.
