Michael Owen has lauded Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

The England legend, speaking on BT Sport (via BBC Sport) says the Spurs striker is one of the best five players in his position in the world.

Kane has been sensational for Tottenham and England over the years.

The 29-year-old has a tally of 255 goals from 397 Spurs outings, as well as 51 goals from 75 Three Lions caps.

As England captain, Kane will be the first name on Gareth Southgate’s teamsheet at the tournament in Qatar.

Owen name-dropped the Spurs star while talking about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s chances of making the England squad.

While Kane is all-but assured of a starting role, the Liverpool full-back isn’t in the same position.

“I was looking at the squad the other day and thinking, if you’re putting those players into categories of whether they are the best five players in their position in the world, I got to Harry Kane and Reece James,” said Owen.

“And then I was struggling. So Trent is up against, in my opinion, one of the best right-backs, one of the best wing-backs, in the world in James.

“And it’s a position that is very strong in this country. We are all talking about Trent now but Southgate wasn’t playing him a while ago, we were seeing the signs that maybe he wasn’t that keen a year ago, even longer.

“He spotted something early on that he didn’t want to commit to and he’s stuck to that.”

Can Kane break his trophy duck this season?

As one of the best players in the world, it beggars belief that Kane is yet to lift a major trophy in his career.

He has come close for both club and country, getting to finals, but so far, silverware has eluded him.

Admittedly, both Tottenham and England haven’t looked great recently.

But hopefully, they’ll be able to pick form up at just the right time, and finally give Kane the chance to lift a trophy.
