Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has been compared to iconic Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard.

Michael Owen, speaking on Premier League Productions, says the Gunners star can be deployed anywhere, just like Gerrard in his playing days.

Rice delivered another five-star performance in his latest outing as Arsenal ran out 6-0 winners at Sheffield United on Monday night.

The 25-year-old scored and registered an assist for the Gunners, netting in the 39th minute and setting up Martin Odegaard for the opener.

Rice’s efforts helped Arsenal make it seven Premier League wins in a row and scored five or more goals in three consecutive top-flight away games.

Arsenal star Declan Rice is a ‘real all-rounder’

Owen believes Rice has been “one of the signings of the season” for Arsenal and lauded the many qualities he brings to the Gunners setup.

“He is a real all-rounder, isn’t he?” Owen said on Premier League Productions (4/3/24, 10:10pm).

“He’s a great holding midfield player, who was played a little bit further forward (against Sheffield United), making those runs when the ball was chopped back in.

“You could play this lad everywhere. Steven Gerrard, I played with, he was another one. He could play right-back, centre-forward and centre-midfield. Anywhere.

“Just a brilliant player. He has a brain. Great athlete. He can play as a holding midfield player, then you play him a little further forward and he creates. He scores and is just a talented boy.

“Even though he cost all that money, he is still one of the signings of the season.”

Declan Rice a revelation for Arsenal

Rice has been one of the most consistent players this season for Arsenal, even when they were having that poor spell before their winter break.

He has been a revelation for the Gunners and it’s great to see him adding goals to his game now he has been allowed to push further up the pitch.
