Michael Owen delivers very honest verdict on Liverpool striker Divock Origi

Michael Owen has told Premier League Productions that Divock Origi has “disappointed” him when the Belgian is handed a place in the starting line-up – despite his goal against Wolves on Sunday.

Origi, 26, came off the bench to net his fourth of the season at Molineux. With the scoreline at 0-0 and into injury time, Origi’s well-placed finish came at the perfect time for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

It is another example of the Reds ace scoring a crucially important goal for the Merseyeside outfit. Many will point to his goals in the semi-final, and final of the Champions League against Barcelona and Tottenham.

Speaking after his goal for Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, Liverpool legend Owen shared how the £10million signing has “disappointed” him in when the ex-Lille ace is handed a start for the Reds.

“He’s had the most unbelievable moments in a Liverpool shirt,” Owen told Premier League Productions, in his analysis of the 1-0 win over Wolves. “When he starts, he disappoints me.

“But he might get a few more starts now in January, which has been well-documented. What a moment it could be, come the end of the season,” Owen continued.

Owen on Origi: Liverpool will have to rely on Origi in next few weeks

With Mo Salah and Sadio Mane jetting off to represent their countries at the African Cup of Nations, Origi’s importance as a Liverpool player will never be greater. He will be crucial to their winter period.

Owen’s claim that he struggles from the start will have to change – given that the likely front three Liverpool will play with, will include Origi alongside Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

Origi’s form has been superb from the bench so far this season, and that will have to continue from the off – contrary to Owen’s claim – if the Reds are to maintain their title charge.
