Michael Owen has explained how many points he thinks Liverpool will need to secure Champions League football next season. The ex-striker was discussing the club’s fortunes to Premier League Productions after last night’s 4-2 win over Manchester United.
The Reds were excellent against the Red Devils. A Roberto Firmino brace and goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah saw Liverpool return to form with a vengeance.
The game was a rearranged affair and United clearly missed the influence of Harry Maguire at the back. For Liverpool though, this was more than just three points, it was a morale-boosting victory.

Owen believes Liverpool are now back in contention for a Champions League berth with last night’s win at Old Trafford. He does think they’ll need to finish with a flourish though.
He told Premier League Productions: “It was a massive game and a massive result, they’re right back in contention. If they get 12 points from their last four games, I am pretty sure they’ll be playing Champions League football next season. It’s a huge result.”
TBR View: Liverpool must now avoid a sense of Deja Vu
The Reds have come undone this season against teams who they should have been beating. Home defeats have come against Burnley, Brighton and Fulham, with West Brom leaving Anfield with a point.
With the Clarets, Seagulls and Baggies now on the fixture list between now and the end of the campaign, Klopp must ensure his team are geared up for the run-in.

It would be quite an achievement if Liverpool managed to finish the season with a top-four finish. They’ve looked miles off the pace since Christmas and injuries have robbed them of a proper title defence.
Owen is right to suggest that Liverpool are closing in though and they couldn’t really ask for better fixtures in their quest to secure a Champions League place.
It’s over to you Klopp…
