Confidence will be high at Manchester United after their extra-time win over Liverpool to reach The FA Cup semi-finals – but Michael Owen doesn’t think they are good enough to catch Aston Villa.

With Manchester United sitting in sixth place but in FA Cup action on the weekend, they now boast a game in hand over fourth-placed Villa. But, Erik ten Hag‘s side sit nine points behind Unai Emery‘s men.

Manchester United are in good form, winning nine of the last 12 games in all competitions. They have 10 league games left to play and if they can continue their current form – they could have a shout for 4th.

Villa have won just one of the last four in all competitions, picking up just one point from the last two league games – losing 4-0 to Spurs, drawing against West Ham. Spurs lost 3-0 to Fulham last time out.

So, none of the three contenders for fourth are in good form. Owen discussed the race for fourth place on The Kelly & Wrighty Show – and he claims Manchester United are not good enough to catch Villa.

“There will be an opening there. Wrighty touched on it, I don’t think Manchester United are good enough to take it – I don’t think they’re good enough to claw back nine points against a good Aston Villa team.”

Right now, you’d imagine that Spurs – despite their 3-0 loss to Fulham on the weekend – are in the best position to finish in fourth. They, like Man United, have a game in hand over Villa, three points behind.

But unlike Villa, Tottenham are not in Europe. Manchester United still have another two games to play, if they beat Coventry in the FA Cup semi-finals. Spurs are best-placed, but it is anyone’s game right now.
