Michael Owen claims Liverpool man may actually be the fourth best player in the world now
Michael Owen has claimed that is now arguable that Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is now one of the four best players in the world.
Salah has now scored more goals in the Champions League than Lionel Messi since 2017.
His brace for Liverpool last night puts him third in the scorers charts in Europe’s elite competition in the last four years.
Only Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo have hit the back of the net with more regularity than the Liverpool man.
And Owen claims that the Egyptian may well have forced his way into the conversation about the world’s best player now.
“Well, just to be in that company! You could argue they are the four best players in the world – you could throw Mbappe in there maybe or Neymar,” Owen said.
“But it just shows were Salah is at the moment, he’s right up there with the world’s best.”
Salah’s goals last night were not his most eye catching, but they once again showed his poacher’s instincts.
The attacker’s brace helped Liverpool to a comfortable 5-1 win over Porto, as they moved into a commanding position in their group.
Salah’s goalscoring has just been relentless, even as Liverpool’s own form dipped last term.
The likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have not quite been able to keep their own very high standards up, but Salah has never faltered in front of goal.
He netted 31 times for the Reds last season to help them into the top four and already has eight goals in eight games this time around, with Liverpool starting the campaign in impressive form.
