Michael Owen claims ‘electric’ Diogo Jota is best signing of the season

Former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen, has claimed that new Reds signing, Diogo Jota, is one of the signings of the season so far in the Premier League.

Owen, who now works for BT Sport as a pundit, has been impressed by Jota’s displays since he arrived from Wolves. A surprise £45m (Sky) signing from the Molineux club, Jota has made a huge impression already at Anfield.

The Portuguese star has already scored four goals in Europe to go with five in the PL. And Owen, speaking after Liverpool saw off Ajax last night, has been hugely impressed with the 23-year-old.

“No one could’ve predicted that he would hit the ground running like he has. You’d have to say he’s the best signing of the season so far in the Premier League.

I think he’s far quicker than I gave him credit for. Against Atalanta he was electric. He just shows composure, a lot of people panic, they just get a shot off as soon as they get any form of space. Nobody could have envisaged the quality that he’s shown so far.”

Jota, who signed a long-term deal worth in the region of £90k-a-week (Express), has forced Jurgen Klopp into changing his formation, such have been the level of his performances.

Owen, then, is the latest in a long line of people to be impressed by the Portugal man.

Eyebrows were raised when Liverpool suddenly splashed out on Jota but it’s proving to be an inspired piece of business by the Reds.

Jota is superb in everything he does and, as Owen points out, just delivers electric displays.

Reds fans will be hoping for more of the same as the season continues, with Jota now almost undroppable it seems.
