Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher react to Harvey Elliott horror injury
Liverpool midfielder, Harvey Elliott, suffered a potentially season-ending injury at Leeds today and Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen have reacted on Twitter.
Elliott went down under an innocuous looking challenge from Pascal Struijk, but as he emerged from the tackle, it was clear there was an issue with his ankle and lower leg,
Mo Salah immediately signalled for help before leaving the scene quickly, while several Reds and Leeds players were visibly shocked. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, was left seething on the touchline.
Elliott left the field on a stretcher to applause from all sides of the ground but he will be hoping that when he reaches the hospital, the news will be more positive than negative.
Of course, the injury is a hot topic on social media. And in Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher, Liverpool had two legends immediately sharing their thoughts on Elliott via Twitter.
TBR’s View: Elliott injury a blot on an otherwise brilliant Liverpool display
Like Carragher says in his tweet, the injury to Elliott does overshadow things a bit for the Reds. But, let’s not take away how efficient a display this was from Klopp’s men.
They never looked in any danger defensively, and on another day would have scored many more goals.
Sadio Mane missed a number of chances, while Thiago also saw a header ruled out for offside. Naturally, everyone wishes Elliott well and hopes he recovers quickly.
But in terms of pure football and the results side of things, this was everything we’ve come to expect from Liverpool.
