Michael Kollner responds when asked about reported Celtic talks

German manager Michael Kollner has reportedly held talks with Celtic, but when asked by newspaper Bild to comment on rumours linking him with the Scottish champions, he has chosen not to comment.

Wales Online claim the former 1. FC Nürnberg boss has undergone talks with both Celtic and Swansea City. The latter are looking to replace Graham Potter, who has joined Premier League side Brighton.

Kollner was sacked by his former side in February. The change in manager failed to prevent 1. FC Nürnberg from suffering relegation from the Bundesliga, finishing rock bottom of Germany’s top tier.

Out of work, Kollner is said to have held talks with both Celtic and Swansea. But when quizzed by Bild to give a comment on the rumours, Kollner refused to comment. Bild did disclose, though, that he has been learning English.

It remains to be seen if Neil Lennon will remain in charge beyond the end of the season, with many of the belief that Saturday’s Scottish Cup final could determine whether he will be given the job.

TBR’s view

Kollner is largely inexperienced and has only managed 1. FC Nürnberg at senior level. Though a modern-thinking manager that favours attacking football, it would be foolish for Celtic to hire Kollner.

Celtic need a manager that has experience and a winning mentality, as well as a name that can attract some big-name players to Parkhead this summer. Neither Lennon or Kollner are that man.
