Michael Keane explains what Frank Lampard has done in Everton training, after excellent Leeds win
It was another fine day at Goodison Park for Frank Lampard and Everton as they dismantled Leeds United to score an impressive 3-0 win.
In what will be a sweet win for Lampard against Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa – for spygate reasons we all know about already – Everton’s performance overall was that of a team buoyed by their new coach.
Lampard enjoyed a fine win in his opening game in the FA Cup, while last week’s showing at Newcastle was nothing like he wants to see from his Toffees side. However, the bounce was back today among his Everton players and they simply had too much for Leeds.
One of the people to benefit from Lampard’s appointment is defender, Michael Keane. The ex-Manchester United man has been super-impressive all season, despite Everton’s patchy form. But under Lampard, he looks to have gone up a gear and got a well-deserved goal today. And Keane, speaking to the BBC, explained that Lampard has brought a fresh intensity to training already.
“The intensity of training, the way we press and our ability on the ball. He has given us more freedom,” Keane explained following the game.
“From minute one we got in their faces and the crowd was brilliant today. We went 2-0 up then defended well.”
TBR’s View: Everton To Climb Under Lampard
The former Chelsea man seems to have bought into the ethos of the entire club and he already seems to have the fans onside at the moment. Certainly, it feels that way at Goodison anyway.
Everton’s home turf was rocking today and Lampard and his players clearly thrived off it. It was the sort of performance and win that sent a message that the Toffees could be back in the game.
If Lampard can carry on like this and then keep building in the summer, then Everton could find themselves back in the European hunt in no time.
