Michael Essien reacts on Instagram as West Ham raid Chelsea to sign Pierre Ekwah
Pierre Ekwah has completed a move that sees him swap Chelsea for West Ham United, signing a three-year deal with the option of a fourth. Ekwah joins the Hammers in what is the first West Ham signing of the summer – and Michael Essien has responded to his Instagram post.
Ekwah, 19, joins West Ham after clocking up six appearances for Chelsea’s Under-23’s. Despite showing plenty of positive signs in the blue of Chelsea, the club allowed him to on trial with West Ham. Making two appearances for the 23’s, he also scored in a 2-2 Premier League 2 clash against Arsenal.
That has seemingly convinced West Ham to wrap up a deal for the France Under-16 international. RMC Sport reported last week that a figure of £1.3million had been agreed between the two clubs and now, official confirmation between both parties has been posted. Ekwah joins West Ham.
Ekwah has plenty of work to do to break into the Hammers first team. But Mark Noble will leave at the end of next season, while Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek start.
Chelsea icon Essien is currently working in Norway with FC Nordsjaelland as a coach. Essien reacted to the departure at Chelsea by sending Ekwah a message. Essien congratulated Ekwah for his move to West Ham from Chelsea with a 12-word comment on his post.
