Michael Edwards is planning to make a significant move after returning to Liverpool in a new CEO of Football role.
The 44-year-old is back at Anfield to help Liverpool deal with life after Jurgen Klopp, hiring Richard Hughes from Bournemouth as Director of Football in his first act as CEO of Football.
Edwards must attempt to replace one of the most successful managers in Liverpool’s history, and also find a new world class midfielder as Thiago’s contract expires this summer.
On that note, there is one world class midfielder who Liverpool have apparently made a significant bid for…
Michael Edwards makes club record bid to sign top midfielder for Liverpool
Well – according to El Debate in Spain – Liverpool are obsessed with Real Madrid No.15 Federico Valverde.
The Spanish news outlet state that Liverpool have wanted to sign the Uruguay international for almost half a decade now, with that interest still remaining to this day.
El Debate interestingly add that Liverpool have offered €150m (£129m) to sign Valverde – a bid which they state is still on the table as we speak.

If accepted, it would see the Reds smash their club record transfer fee, which currently stands at the £75m spent on Virgil van Dijk back in January 2018.
Darwin Nunez could eventually become Liverpool’s club record signing – the Uruguayan was signed from Benfica for an initial £64m fee, although that sum could rise to £85m if clauses are met.
Valverde has scored one goal and provided seven assists across 30 appearances in La Liga so far this season.
Another Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria situation?
Some of you will surely question why Real Madrid would want to sell Valverde – who Tottenham No.30 Rodrigo Bentancur said is “one of the best in the world” nowadays.
However, Real Madrid have history of selling top players to make room for expensive imports.
Los Blancos allowed Mesut Ozil to join Arsenal back in 2013 after spending a then world record £85m to sign Gareth Bale.
The Spanish giants also allowed Angel Di Maria to sign for Manchester United in 2014 to accommodate for the £63m signing of 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez.

Therefore, with a lucrative ‘free transfer‘ move for Kylian Mbappe in the pipeline – which Sky Sports believe could still cost Real Madrid well over £100m – and Endrick arriving too, Valverde could be offloaded.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Liverpool attempt to sign the South American after years of tracking his progress.
