Michael Dawson thinks Tottenham should turn to ‘unbelievable’ Dele Alli

Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has told Sky Sports News (01/02; 20:17) that Jose Mourinho should swallow his pride and reinstate Dele Alli.

The 24-year-old has started just once in the Premier League this season, making 12 appearances in total.

A few years ago he was tipped as one of the hottest, young properties in the country but now finds himself out of contention.

Alli was linked with a move to PSG during the transfer window but nothing came to fruition for the England man

Now, it seems as though the midfielder is in limbo for the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

Dawson made 324 appearances for Tottenham and he believes it’s time to hand Alli another chance.

He told Sky Sports News (01/02; 20:17): “It’s really disappointing for Dele. Two years ago he was an unbelievable player for them but at this moment in time, it’s not happening for him.

“He’s injured at the moment, I get that. The form Spurs are in, Harry Kane is out and hopefully, he can fight his way back into the squad and cause Jose a problem

“He’s wasted. It’s a wasted talent for him, for Spurs and the problem needs to be resolved.

“If they’re keeping him involved in the dressing room they need to get him back in the football team, for sure.”

TBR View: Decision time for Mourinho – and Dawson could be right

News emerged yesterday that Giovani Lo Celso will be out for another three weeks and given Tottenham’s current form, Mourinho could turn to Alli.

The £100,000-a-week performer has been a decent player for Spurs and Dawson is right when he suggests it’s a wasted talent.

Alli has played 234 times for Tottenham, scoring 64 goals and claiming 57 assists since arriving from MK Dons.

With 37 England caps to his name too the evidence is there that Alli is capable of doing a job under Mourinho.

Right now he is injured but quite why he hasn’t featured more this season remains something of a mystery.

Tottenham have put in two feeble performances in losing to Liverpool and Brighton.

With that in mind, and with injuries stacking up, the time looks right to let Alli shoe people exactly what he is capable of.
