Michael Dawson has told Sporting Life that he cannot believe Daniel Levy did not tie up Christian Eriksen’s contract when handing out deals for Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli last year.
Eriksen, 27, is set to leave Tottenham in the near future with his contract at Spurs set to end. It remains to be seen if Spurs can bring in some cash for his signature in January, or they will have to let him go on a free in the summer.
Real Madrid have been consistently linked with 92-time Denmark international Eriksen, while the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have also been credited with an interest over the past six months.
Kane signed a new contract in the summer of 2018, before Alli agreed new terms in October 2018. But Eriksen was not handed a deal, meaning he could leave on a free. Ex-Spurs captain Dawson has hammered Levy for not giving Eriksen a contract.

“Christian Eriksen, for the last two seasons, has been one of the best players in the Premier League. In the top-ten players for me because he’s a creator,” Dawson said. “He didn’t hit the form he set at the end of last season and he hasn’t this season with the things going on like with the contract – only he knows that.
“If he gets offered all this money, and that’s what Spurs will struggle with, teams will want their players and people can pay more. So two years ago, why didn’t they offer Eriksen a mega deal when they offered them to Harry Kane and Dele Alli?
“Give him what he wants because he was a big player and now he’s not playing to the heights that he has set.”
TBR’s view – Dawson is right, Levy deserves enormous criticism
Eriksen was impeccable during 2016-17 – scoring 12 goals and laying on 23 assists – before scoring 13 and making 14 the season later. At this point, Eriksen was keen to play for Spurs and remain at the club.
Had he been given a new five-year deal at this point, surely he would have signed it. Even if he was given the deal in 2016, it would have kept him at Spurs for another year. Instead, Levy opted against keeping him at the club.
For that, Levy deserves to be criticised.
