Michael Dawson says Jack Grealish can replace Christian Eriksen at Tottenham

Michael Dawson has told TalkSPORT (Monday, 09:19am) that he believes Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish can be the man to finally replace Christian Eriksen at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Grealish, 24, has been in stunning form for Aston Villa despite the club remaining in the relegation zone. The playmaker has had a hand in 17 goals this season – during his 38 appearances in all competitions.

Tipped to finally earn his first England cap, Grealish is expected to remain in the Premier League – even if Villa are relegated. Tottenham came within an inch of signing him in 2018, but Sky claim their £25million bid was rejected.

Ex-Spurs defender Dawson was asked by Ally McCoist if he felt Grealish could fit in a side like Tottenham, with the TalkSPORT presenter of the belief that Spurs lack a no.10. Dawson replied, stating Grealish could replace Eriksen.

“Yeah, Jack is a fantastic player,” Dawson said. “When they let Eriksen go, his head had been turned but 18 months ago he was incredible, different class, they haven’t replaced him, I love lo celso, he is incredible,” Dawson said.

“Dele Alli is incredible too – but Harry Kane misses Eriksen. He made opportunities for Harry, it gave Harry goal after goal. We are being critical of Spurs, but those heights aren’t being hit.”

TBR’s view – Can Tottenham convince Grealish to sign for Spurs?

Tottenham need European qualification. Without that, the chances of signing players like Grealish are unlikely, especially with Manchester United, Chelsea and other sides linked with Grealish expected to qualify.

Spurs are still in with a shout of European football. However, the decision for Manchester City’s European ban to be overturned is a huge blow to Spurs’ chances of Europa League football. Seventh could promise Europa League action.

But even then, would Grealish choose Tottenham over Champions League with Manchester United and Chelsea? It remains to be seen.
