Michael Dawson has made prediction about Tottenham defender Eric Dier

Michael Dawson has jumped to the defence of Tottenham’s Eric Dier by claiming he will bounce back from his recent struggles.

Dier, 27, has fallen out of the Spurs XI in the past month, and has been left on the bench in the recent five Premier League matches.

The centre-back is away on international duty right now with England, where again he was a substitute during Thursday night’s 5-0 win over San Marino in a World Cup qualifier.

He’s an aggressive defender with great strength and ability in the air, but question marks are still over him regarding his decision-making.

Despite being a nailed-on starter earlier in the season under manager Jose Mourinho, he’s now out of favour and has a lot of work to do to break back into the side.

Dawson is convinced though that fans will see the best Dier once again soon enough.

“Eric Dier was number one [centre-back] when Jose came in. A few bad games, which we’ve all gone through, and he’ll come back because he’s a top player,” ex-Spurs defender Dawson told Youtube channel Tottenham Hotspur – Spurs Web.

“He’s an international. The way he plays I like, he gets on the ball, and he’s very confident.”

TBR’s View:

Unfortunately, Dier’s exile from the XI right now is merited, and he’s wasted too many opportunities this season.

Mourinho is making him be patient for his next opportunity in the league, and he’s got the options within the squad at centre-back to try different combinations.

It’s another big test of Dier’s character to see how responds in the remainder of the campaign.
