Tottenham Hotspur are fully up and running in the Premier League thanks to a resounding 4-0 win over Everton in north London.

Spurs hosted the Toffees in Saturday’s 3pm Premier League kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham were eager to make amends for their 1-1 draw at Leicester City, a game which they could’ve won by four or five goals but for their wastefulness.

There were no such issues for Spurs this time round as they opened the scoring in the 14th minute.

Yves Bissouma, back in the starting XI following his disciplinary suspension, fired home from the edge of the box via the underside of the bar.

Spurs were then two up on 25 minutes thanks to a Jordan Pickford error, a heavy touch from a back pass which Son Heung-min duly picked up and slotted home.

Cristian Romero then added a third for the Lilywhites in the 71st minute, rising highest at a corner to nod home off the underside of the bar in his 100th club appearance.

Son capped off the rout with his second of the game six minutes later, a simple finish through Pickford’s legs after great work from the marauding Micky van de Ven.

Michael Dawson hails ‘machine’ Micky van de Ven

The Dutch defender picked up the ball just outside his own box and surged up the pitch to the edge of the opposition area before setting up Son.

Former Spurs defender Michael Dawson loved what he saw from Van de Ven, singing the £50,000-a-week man’s praises live on Sky Sports News.

“Micky van de Ven picks the ball up on the edge of his own 18-yard box,” he began (24/8/2024, 4:37pm).

“He drives, he keeps going, he goes over the half-way line, he drives, he keeps driving, he gets outside the Everton box, he lends the ball to Son, takes a touch on his left foot, laces it straight through Jordan Pickford’s legs.

“Four-nil Spurs, what a goal! Micky van de Ven – what a machine!”

What ratings did Micky van de Ven get by the media?

Football.london gave the Netherlands international a 9 out of 10 rating for his efforts against Everton.

“Made a great headed interception to deny Calvert-Lewin in the 34th minute,” wrote Alasdair Gold.

“Jarred his knee towards the end of the half which left him in a lot of pain but he kept going.

“It didn’t seem to affect him as he made a string of great tackles before racing up the pitch in the second half and playing in Son to score his second. A superb display.”

Likewise, the Evening Standard gave him 9 out of 10, with Dan Kilpatrick writing: “Dribbled from the edge of his own box to set up Son’s second and Spurs’ fourth goal in what could easily be the assist of the season.

“Mopped up the majority of Everton counter-attacks with no fuss in a commanding defensive display.”
