Michael Dawson blasts Tottenham ace Matt Doherty after Arsenal defeat

Michael Dawson has blasted Matt Doherty for his part in Arsenal’s equalising goal against Tottenham yesterday.

The Nottingham Forest defender was on the Sky Sports panel for the game and made the admission at half-time.

A former Tottenham defender himself, Dawson was clearly upset at the manner in which Doherty allowed Kieran Tierney to get his initial cross in.

The four-cap England man played 324 times for Spurs and took aim at the Republic of Ireland start during the interval.

Dawson told Sky Sports: “The goal came from Tierney, he’s one v one with Doherty and it’s too easy.

“He gets the cross in but they’ve got to stop the ball at source, stop the ball getting down the right and then one v one Doherty has got to be better.

Doherty has made 15 Premier League appearances for Tottenham since arriving from Wolves during the summer (BBC).

So far he has flattered to deceive with some supporters not convinced he has the required quality to become a Tottenham star.

The 29-year-old has started the last three top-flight contests but always looks to have a mistake in his locker.

Serge Aurier was back on the bench yesterday and perhaps Doherty is now in danger of being replaced in the team once again.

When he checked in, the £65,000-a-week international looked like he could become a shrewd signing.

Things just haven’t worked out for him at Tottenham, however, and the right-back spot is still causing Mourinho problems.

Aurier is now back but he’s also showcased a pretty erratic style of defending at times.

Right now, it doesn’t seem unfathomable that Mourinho will seek to sign another right-back option during the summer.
