Michael Chopra picks the manager he wants at Newcastle, as £300million takeover nears completion
Michael Chopra has told Newcastle fans on Twitter that his pick for the club’s next manager would be Antonio Conte – amid an imminent takeover.
Reports claim that Newcastle are finally about to complete the £300million takeover. An agreement has been found over the issue of piracy.
Saudi Arabia and BeIN Sports have resolved the problem, after four and a half years. The PIF have separated themselves from Saudi Arabia, too.
That solves the human rights issues, with the Premier League now seemingly open to ratifying the deal. Newcastle fans are obviously excited.
As with every takeover, plenty of speculation is being had over a potential new manager. Steve Bruce’s poor showing as Toon boss does not help.
He is being linked with an immediate exit from the role when the takeover gets done. Sky reporter Keith Downie says it could be as early as today.
Ex-Toon striker Chopra, who has been incredibly vocal about the takeover of his old club, has a managerial suggestion – in the shape of Conte.
Chopra on Conte: Would Newcastle takeover prove tempting to Italian?
It would be an enormous coup. Conte is without a club despite guiding Inter to the Serie A title. He was in advanced talks with Spurs in the summer.
But he remains jobless. Arguably, he is the most high-profile boss currently not in a job. Obviously, he won the Premier League with Chelsea.
If Newcastle got Conte, it would be incredible. But it would also be a sign of the ambition the new consortium have. Could Newcastle tempt him?
Anyone could be tempted with the level of funds the Saudi Arabia PIF is said to be worth – around £320billion. Exciting times for Toon fans.
