Michael Brown says Tottenham can't solely blame Harry Kane for Arsenal defeat
Tottenham striker Harry Kane has been the target for blame over the last 24 hours, after Spurs lost to Arsenal 3-1. But former midfielder and now Sky Sports regular, Michael Brown, believes the fans can’t simply blame Kane.
Kane’s summer of discontent has made him an easy option for some fans to come out and criticise. In fairness, he’s yet to score in the Premier League this term and his performance yesterday was a poor one.
The England skipper has always been a slow starter in terms of goals at the beginning of a new season. It means, really, that his lack of them should not be a huge concern. Not yet anyway.
And following the Arsenal defeat, former midfielder Brown told Sky Sports that there is more than Harry Kane at fault in this Spurs side.
“I think Harry Kane is always going to light up isn’t it. He’s the leader of the team. When they don’t win, it’s always Harry Kane. Has he not scored? Has he not done this? And it be hard to take for him,” Brown said.
“I think we need to be careful with the criticism coming towards Harry Kane. You need others around you, the team to perform. The stature he is, he’s the leader in the dressing room. But you can’t just blame it on Harry Kane. You know, when you’re 3-0 down it’s more than just one player.”
TBR’s View: Brown is right, Harry Kane and more were at fault against Arsenal
This is a great point from Michael Brown here. Yes, Kane is the talisman and should be producing. But it’s not all his fault that Spurs got hammered.
Other players need to stand up and be counted. Over the years, Kane has bailed his team out on more than enough occasions. Maybe yesterday, he needed one back?
Kane will score goals. And Brown is right, people need to be careful about how much they throw at him. He is, after all, still a human being.
