Michael Beale reacts to Rangers player's international debut with four-word post on Instagram
Rangers coach Michael Beale has joined a number of the Ibrox faithful in lauding Nathan Patterson on Instagram after the Gers right-back made his international debut on Sunday.
With Euro 2020 looming, Steve Clarke handed Patterson his Scotland bow against Luxembourg.
The 19-year-old went into the summer after a breakout year with Steven Gerrard’s side. He played seven times in the Scottish Premiership.
The highlight for Patterson surely came when he scored a superb goal against Royal Antwerp in the Europa League in February.
He is threatening to provide some genuine competition for James Tavernier. And what may boost his chances of more game-time next term is impressing in the coming weeks.
Patterson did well in the friendly win at the weekend. He came on during the second-half.
It was the kind of display that will encourage Clarke.
He may be on the periphery of the Scotland squad. But it would be no surprise if he took any opportunities in his stride.
Unsurprisingly, Patterson wanted to take to social media following his international debut.
And amongst those to reply was Beale. The Rangers coach made a positive prediction about what his future holds…
Rangers will benefit from Patterson receiving international call-up
Patterson will likely be under no illusions regarding his role in the Scotland squad.
It would be asking a lot to expect Patterson to come in for the group-stages.
Nevertheless, the experience should help him take that next step in his development.
It is a new environment. He is playing with different players. And the country will be desperately hoping to see Scotland spring some surprises.
Rangers should benefit from that next season. Patterson will have added some further strings to his bow.
As Beale suggests, Patterson looks to have the potential to enjoy a long international career. He should soon be a stalwart for club and country.
It would be fantastic if cap number two was just days away.
