Micah Richards thinks Harry Kane is 'frustrating' his Tottenham teammates

Micah Richards has told BBC Radio 5 Live that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane is ‘frustrating’ his teammates with his tendency to drop deep during games.

Spurs fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals Arsenal on Sunday after a poor first-half showing.

Antonio Conte’s men have often started games slowly this season and while they’ve managed to mount some impressive comebacks, it proved costly over the weekend.

While Tottenham have been underperforming over the last 10 Premier League matches, Kane has certainly been firing in-front of goal.

The 29-year-old has already bagged 17 goals this season and has arguably been Spurs’ most consistent performer. But Richards feels he could be frustrating his teammates due to coming too deep to get involved in the game.

Reflecting on Tottenham’s north London derby defeat, Richards feels Conte’s men were far too negative in their approach.

The former Manchester City defender adds that Kane’s habit of dropping deep to get involved in the game is causing problems for his teammates.

“In terms of the way they are set up, it’s a little bit too negative,” he said on BBC’s The Monday Night Club

“Kane is again coming too deep, which must be frustrating for all of his teammates.

“When he’s not having the best of games, he’s going to be involved which then leaves nobody up-front which is even harder to do when you have so many players back.”

Kane has developed into a brilliant playmaker, as well as a lethal goal scorer. His habit of dropping deeper to link-up play has proven effective for Tottenham over the past few seasons.

Spurs are lacking creativity in the middle of the park and it often comes down to Kane to provide a moment of magic.

If Conte had more players who are capable of providing the front-three with decent service, the England captain probably wouldn’t have to do it by himself.

Apart from Kane, Dejan Kulusevski is arguably Tottenham’s most influential player in the final third. But Tottenham are lacking players who are capable of creating goals and it’s been a problem for the north Londoners ever since Christian Eriksen left the club.
