Micah Richards says Spurs player who made 15 PL appearances last season will be ‘massive’ this year

Micah Richards reckons that Tottenham’s Dele Alli is going to be a “massive player” for them in the new season.

Alli has seen his individual levels dip considerably in the last couple of years, something which is constantly spoken about in the media.

First of all, it’s worth noting that he was so exceptional during his first few years as a Spurs player that a drop off was inevitable at some point. In addition, the fact he’s earned 37 caps for England and is a high-profile name means he’s under the magnifying glass constantly.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has a chance now to start fresh under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo. It’s a daunting first game of the Premier League season though on Sunday against defending champions Manchester City.

Pundit Richards is tipping Alli to step up in this 2021/22 campaign.

The creative playmaker only made 15 Premier League appearances throughout the whole of the previous season, but has had good minutes in pre-season under Nuno.

“One man I am prepared to put my neck on the line for, though, is Dele Alli,” Richards told The Daily Mail.

“He is going to be a massive player for Spurs again. I’m not saying he will be back in the England side or anything like that but I believe he will show his best form.”

Dele Alli has time and ability to bounce back

For Alli, he needs to go into this new year with a fresh mindset. It’s a great opportunity to make himself a favourite under Nuno.

It looks like he’s getting the licence under the new manager to really try contribute further up the pitch when he plays, so that should suit him.

He may just need a goal or two to really spark him back into life. Jesse Lingard is the perfect player to look at for inspiration as he bids to rediscover top form.
