Micah Richards has put his Manchester City bias to one side and believes Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk is still just ahead of Ruben Dias in terms of impact in the Premier League.
Richards was speaking on Sky’s Super Six podcast this week and was asked a number of questions regarding comparions between Man City’s best players and other Premier League stars.
And to the surprise of those listening in, Richards opted to go with Liverpool star Van Dijk over current City star, Dias.
“I think Ruben Dias has been brilliant,” Richard said.
“I’ve got to be impartial and what Van Dijk has done over the last few years has been incredible. So yeah, I’ve got to go Van Dijk”
The big Dutch defender has missed the majority of this season through injury. But he is widely credited with the remarkable rise of the Reds, helping Jurgen Klopp’s men to the Champions League and then Premier League titles.
Dias, meanwhile, only arrived in the summer from Benfica but is regarded as the undroppable one in the City backline.
TBR View: Both Dias and Van Dijk are fantastic, as a pair they’d be amazing
Can you just imagine that? The thought of coming up against both Dias and Van Dijk is a scary thought for any footballer.
Luckily, we get to see the pair competing against each other, albeit this season has been a write-off for VVD.
Richards obviously has City ties but his logic is about right here. Van Dijk has the trophies in the bag and his impact has been enormous.
