Micah Richards has claimed that Southampton midfielder, James Ward-Prowse, is the most underrated midfielder in the Premier League ahead of this year’s World Cup.
Ward-Prowse has been outstanding for Southampton all season and is attracting admiring glances from elsewhere due to his form. Indeed, it was only a few weeks ago that Talksport’s Jason Cundy made a strong case for Arsenal to go out and sign Ward-Prowse.

But, remarkably, Ward-Prowse isn’t a guaranteed fixture in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. The depth of talent in midfield and attacking areas means the Three Lions have to leave some players disappointed. However, regular pundit, Micah Richards, believes Ward-Prowse simply has to go to Qatar.
“Yes, he’s the most underrated player in the Premier League for years. People say he doesn’t have mobility but not for me. He works hard, he’s always 7/10. He has a great right foot,” Richards said when speaking to Gary Neville on the LadBible YouTube channel.
“You know what lets him down? Because he’s so good at free-kicks – like David Beckham – people forget about all the other stuff he’s good at.”
Ward-Prowse is expected to be in Southgate’s thinking come December.
TBR’s View: Richards Is Right About James Ward-Prowse
The point about the free-kicks and likening him to David Beckham is a great one from Richards. It is a really good observation and probably does Ward-Prowse a disservice.
But there is no doubt he is top class. He consistently delivers and if those people tipping him for Arsenal get their wish, then the Gunners will have a mighty fine player on their hands in Ward-Prowse.
