Micah Richards reacts to Neal Maupay’s ‘ridiculous’ actions after leaving Everton

It’s fair to say that it hasn’t been the best of starts to the season for Everton and Sean Dyche, who will be working on a swift solution over the international break.

After the capitulation against Bournemouth at Goodison Park, it’s been slightly difficult to find too many positives at Everton right now.

But hopefully as the weeks go on, some of the club’s smart summer recruitment should start to pay dividends, and in turn, achieve vital results.

Tim Iroegbunman is showing so much promise in the middle, and Iliman Ndiaye has also now proven that he’s ready to be a regular starter.

And when you consider that both Jesper Lindstrom and Orel Mangala will soon be ready to contribute, it’s not all doom and gloom.

Micah Richards thinks Neal Maupay was wrong about Everton fans

Paving the way for some of these new arrivals, and effectively trading places with Ndiaye, Neal Maupay left Everton to join Marseille on loan this summer, a move that will eventually become permanent for around £5m.

Maupay has struggled to contribute on a consistent basis, a player who has endured one or two shocking misses in the Premier League.

However, when speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, it was Maupay’s antics this summer which caught the attention of Micah Richards.

The pundit was responding to a fan question on the podcast alongside Gary Lineker, and had a few words to say about Maupay.

Richards said: “Oh you know who’s a sh–house? Neil Maupay is the biggest sh–house – did you see on social media recently?

Lineker replied: “His complaints about the Everton fans giving them abuse getting on the train.”

Richards: “It was like, you’ve got a team who are paying your wages and you’ve not been great for that team.

“So do you remember Shawshank Redemption? I think it was, when he breaks free at the end.

“And he’s like just stood there in the rain like that. As soon as he left Everton he posted that on social media.

“He like, like the wind holding him back and he’s escaped prison. It was ridiculous.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future still a concern for Everton

Of course, when talking about strikers departing Goodison Park, it’s hard not to mention Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s name.

The 27-year-old has now entered the last year of his contract that he last extended in 2020.

Calvert-Lewin was pursued by Newcastle United in the summer, a move that ultimately never happened.

But perhaps strong interest will return for the England international in January if he’s still not agreed a new deal by then.

And amid all of the drama that Everton are already creating for themselves on the pitch, it’s a saga that the club could do without right now.
