Micah Richards reacts to Charlie Cresswell display in Leeds loss

Micah Richards has shared on Match of the Day his reaction to the performance of Charlie Cresswell after Leeds United’s defeat to West Ham at Elland Road on Saturday.

What’s the story?

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are coming to terms with an agonising defeat. They conceded a late winner against the Hammers.

It came after a superb first-half display from the Whites. They had taken the lead through Raphinha.

But one positive was certainly the performance of Cresswell. The centre-back made his Premier League debut in the game having stood out in midweek as Leeds beat Fulham in the Carabao Cup.

The 19-year-old was obviously facing his toughest test yet. And, while the result was not ideal, he seemed to step up and prove that he is destined for a very bright future.

And while discussing Leeds’ performance, Richards suggested that the teenager stood out with his display.

“Leeds did have some injuries,” he told Match of the Day. “They had Struijk out, Llorente, Koch and Ayling. Charlie Cresswell had a really good game today. But as a unit, it’s just not working.”

Bielsa faces tough decision on Cresswell with Struijk available against Watford

Leeds look set to receive a boost ahead of next Saturday’s clash with Watford. Pascal Struijk is set to be back from suspension.

In truth, it looks highly unlikely that Bielsa will drop Liam Cooper for the game. The captain has done fairly well in recent times.

It would also be asking a lot for Struijk and Cresswell to play together against the Hornets.

So Bielsa surely needs to decide whether Cresswell keeps his place, or whether Struijk comes back in.

It says a lot about how good Cresswell has been that Bielsa looks to have a really tough decision to make over the coming days.
